Monrovia — The Political Leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Benedict Cummings, on Sunday engaged residents of Point Four and the Supermarket Community in Montserrado County’s District #16, where he spent much of his childhood, as part of his early outreach efforts ahead of the 2029 presidential and legislative elections.
Addressing a large gathering of residents, Cummings reflected on his upbringing in the community, sharing personal stories and reconnecting with longtime friends and neighbors who witnessed his formative years.
During the meeting, he discussed challenges confronting both the community and the nation, while emphasizing the need for accountability in governance.
“I want this government to succeed, but I will checkmate them where necessary. When they succeed, poverty will reduce,” Cummings told residents, underscoring his commitment to constructive criticism and oversight of the current administration.
Using a vivid metaphor to convey his vision for political change, the ANC leader compared Liberia’s leadership challenges to a depleted battery.
“If you have a battery radio and the battery runs down, putting the same battery will not work. You need a new battery, and I am that new battery that the country needs,” he declared to applause from supporters.
The engagement forms part of Cummings’ ongoing efforts to reconnect with grassroots communities and build support ahead of the 2029 elections. His message centered on renewal, accountability, and what he described as the need for fresh leadership to address Liberia’s persistent economic and social challenges.
Political observers view the outreach as an early signal of Cummings’ intention to remain a major contender in Liberia’s next electoral cycle, with District #16 serving as a key constituency in his broader campaign strategy.
