MONROVIA – A longstanding member of the Congress for Democratic Change, now in a ruling coalition with other parties, has raised critical concerns about the form and manner in which he says President George Manneh Weah is proceeding in appointing personalities to positions in government.
In an emphatic tone, Sheikh Mohammed M. Sheriff, who carries code #533 on his CDC membership ID Card, said he is particularly disenchanted that, “people around President Weah,” have built a towering wall around the President which is robbing the country of having the right people appropriately placed in positions of public trust.
Sheikh Sheriff pointed out that one classic attention-grabbing example is the President’s recent appointment of fellow partisan Jalloh as Islamic Advisor to the President, when according to Sheikh Sheriff, Jalloh, no consultations were held amongst Islamic stakeholders to determine the best way forward.
“Our government’s name is spoiling every day, and the people around the President making it hard for the real people to see him to give him the right advice.” He asserted.
Asked by our Reporter as to why it took him this length to make public, his disposition on happenings in his own party’s government, Sheikh Sheriff said, the high wall cronies have built around President Weah is resulting to his frustration.
“You see my finger with this everlasting injury mark, I was beaten by strange forces who took over CDC’s headquarters on November 8, 2011. I nearly got killed, in fact, I was standing right there in the space Ambassador Weah was sharing with other Party Executives when his bodyguard who opened his arms in VIP protection of Mr. Weah was shot and killed. That partisan died to save our President [Weah], Sheikh Sheriff noted.
Sheikh Sheriff wants the President listen to the Liberian people’s concerns about his government’s activities and take recommendations that seek the right way forward. Even though the Islamic Scholar failed to say what his current status is in terms of job, our Reporter ascertained that the Sheikh has no job placement in the CDC-led government. Serving as CDC’s first Chairman on Islamic affairs, Sheikh Mohammad M. Sheriff, schooled in the Azer El Univerty in Egypt with a Master’s Degree in Islamic studies, spearheaded all Islamic activities of the Party, and closely collaborated with the current Executive Director of the Refugee Agency – LRRRC, Rev. Festus Logan, who on the other hand, is in charge of Christianity within the Congress for Democratic Change.
In conclusion, Sheikh Sheriff intimated that only qualified and competent Liberian professionals well schooled and experienced, can be of the requisite help or fulcrum to President Weah if he must salvage the prevailing fragile state of the Liberian economy.
CDC Islamic Affairs Chairlady only identified as Musu lost her life on the grounds of the Party Headquarters late December 2017 immediately after the Presidential Runoff Election which brought President George M. Weah to power.
Sheikh Sheriff further narrated that he lost his marriage as a result of his unbending support and loyalty to the Congress for Democratic Change.
The Islamic Cleric is however demanding his share for the longstanding fight, commitment and dedication of service to the CDC.
