Monrovia – In a striking turn of political fortunes within the local football governance structure, former Executive Committee member Ivan G. Brown has been thrown a lifeline by the leadership of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), just months after suffering a defeat at the ballot box.

During an Executive Committee session held on Thursday, June 25, under the chairmanship of LFA President Mustapha Raji, the body approved a series of sweeping administrative decisions, headlined by the co-option of Brown back into the inner circle of the football house.
The decision comes on the heels of the LFA’s recent elective congress, where voting football stakeholders withdrew their mandate from Brown and Kelvin Bayoh, failing to grant them the required votes to retain their elected seats on the Executive Committee.
However, leveraging statutory provisions, the Raji administration moved swiftly to bring Brown back into the fold through the co-option pathway, exposing an apparent divide between the desires of general voters and the preferences of the executive leadership.
Under his new co-opted status, Brown will continue to serve as the Chairman of the critical LFA Technical and Youth Development Committee a position the administration seemingly considers him too indispensable to lose.
To reinforce his work, Ousman Tall was approved as the co-opted Co-Chairman of the same committee, a tandem tasked with spearheading the association’s grassroots and technical development agenda.
The meeting began with operational briefings and internal reports from the LFA Secretariat regarding day-to-day administrative matters, providing Executive Committee members with a comprehensive overview of ongoing activities.
Following the presentations, the body adopted several resolutions intended to improve overall football governance and enhance the effectiveness of the association’s internal structures.
Beyond Brown’s high-profile return, the Executive Committee endorsed the appointment of additional members to several standing and ad hoc committees responsible for critical aspects of football administration.
The bodies receiving fresh membership include: The LFA Statutes and Judicial Codes Review Committee, The Amateur Football Committee, The Bid Evaluation Committee and The Referees Committee
The latest appointments come as the LFA continues its efforts to strengthen institutional governance, improve football administration, and enhance the implementation of policies designed to develop the sport from the grassroots to the elite level.
While the LFA release did not disclose the full roster of the newly appointed committee members or outline specific mandates for each body, the decisions reflect an ongoing effort to reinforce the governance framework supporting Liberian football.
The Executive Committee is the LFA’s principal decision-making entity between congresses and is responsible for overseeing policy implementation, strategic planning, and overall administration.
With Brown firmly back in the driver’s seat of youth development despite his recent electoral setback, the administration’s capacity is now locked in for the upcoming cycle, setting the stage for how the executive body will navigate its mandate over the next four years.
