Voinjama, Lofa County – Lofa County Community College (LCCC) campus was a scene of excitement on last Monday when the institution received a donation of 13 computers from the Government of Liberia through the General Services Agency (GSA).
The donation is worth US$18,000 and includes 10 desktop computers and three laptop computers.
Making the presentation on behalf of GOL, GSA Deputy Director, Cole Bangalu, along with Ben Kandakai, Coordinator of the GSA, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the educational needs of learning institutions in the country, with the LCCC being no exception.
According to Mr. Bangalu, when he realized the list of institutions to benefit from this donation was Monrovia-based, he requested his boss, Madam Mary Broh to decentralize the gesture – preferably the rural areas with Lofa County being one of the beneficiaries.
Bangalu, a native of Lofa County, called on his kinsmen to resist confusion and embrace peace. “When you go to school and at least you are blessed you start working, you need in my mind to serve as ambassadors,” Mr. Bangalu said while addressing a cross-section of Lofa County Community College students who had gone to grace the turning over of the computers.
Receiving the items on behalf of the college, the vice president for academic affairs and provost, Dr. Ibrahim Favada, lauded the Government of Liberia through the GSA for the donation of the 13 computers to the college.
Dr. Favada further noted that the gesture was timely, adding that the computer laboratory was short of computers, a situation that is negatively affecting the smooth learning of students, especially those who go there to do research works.
He assured the GSA officials that the donated items will be used to improve the learning environment of the students at the college.
“We the people of Lofa need to use our position, our education to help our people,” Lofa County Senator, Stephen Zargo admonished a cross-section of Lofaians including students, several prominent citizens and elders of the county at a jammed Lofa County Community College campus palava hut.
The Lofa County lawmaker also thanked the GSA officials for the gesture and promised to work with the county authorities in the development of the county.
The Lofa County Community College is among several post-secondary learning institutions established in several counties of Liberia through an act of the National Legislature as a means of enhancing government’s decentralization policy through education.
