Gbarnga, Bong County – Mr. Alexander Cummings, the political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress has kicked off his tour of rural Liberia with initial stops in Margibi and Bong Counties.
Mr. Cummings, who told FrontPageAfrica in an interview this week that he is looking forward to making his case to the people of Liberia, was greeted with impressive crowds on both stops of his tour.
Mr. Cummings has acknowledged that he has a lot of grounds to make up. “I think we have seventeen months, we’ve made a start already.”
Mr. Cummings told FPA that his critics might be surprise as to even the kind of organization he has already put in place in quite a few counties.
“The work is not just beginning; the work has begun and you know I often say to people, my wife that sleep is overrated; we will work. There are three working days in every 24 hours and so we will take advantage of the time we have and we’re going to work very hard.
But it is not just about the meetings and conversations; it is about doing small development projects around Liberia which I think will also propel the need.”
Cummings “Nation Tour” started in Margibi County Wednesday where he arrived with party chairman Lafayette Gould and officials of the ANC amidst a jubilant crowd that turned out to receive his entourage with some chanting “real change has come”, “real change has come”.
Chairman Gould says the visit is intended to ascertain the views of the citizens in the various parts of the country and experience first-hand what ordinary Liberians go through daily.
Organizers say the events are well planned and could afford the ANC the opportunity to take their candidate to the Liberian people in what Cummings advisers say, is a prelude to what is expected to be a heated 2017 Elections.
The entry of Mr. Cummings, a former Coca Cola executive in the race, has caused some stir among political pundits with some unsure whether he has enough time to familiarize himself with the rugged political terrain in Liberia.
