MONROVIA — Following Kortu FC’s coronation as champions of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2025/2026 National Third Division Playoff, Chief Executive Officer LTCOL Saimo Omias Kortu has hailed the achievement as a “momentous breakthrough” rooted in a vision to empower Liberian youth.

Speaking after his team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tebeh FC at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, LTCOL Kortu emphasized that the club’s rapid rise was no stroke of luck, but rather the execution of a deliberate strategy.
“Kortu FC’s promotion to the LFA Second Division did not come by surprise, but rather through the hard work led by Head Coach Swen,” CEO Kortu said.
“This represents a momentous breakthrough as the team continues to open a new chapter in its history. We will now shift our focus toward preparing for our Second Division challenges, where the level of competition, organization, and expectations will be considerably higher.”
Reflecting on the foundation of the club, which operates under the Kortu Football Academy, the CEO shared that his motivation extends beyond competitive success on the pitch.
“There are two primary reasons I established Kortu FC: my love for the game of football, and my desire to help develop the skills and talents of youth who have a passion for both the sport and classroom education,” Kortu stated.
“We stayed committed to this vision until our dream of qualifying for the LFA Second Division became a reality.”
He also extended warm gratitude to the technical crew, the playing body, and the club’s supporters whose unwavering backing propelled the team throughout the campaign.
The title win capped off a remarkable week for the Montserrado County-based outfit, who had already guaranteed their place in the Second Division alongside runners-up Tebeh FC prior to Saturday’s final match.
The triumph represents a major comeback for Kortu FC, who suffered an early exit in the Round of 16 during the 2024/2025 Third Division Playoff. Following that disappointment, the club brought in Head Coach Jah Swen, whose tactical leadership spearheaded the team’s turnaround.
Kortu FC first sealed their promotion by topping Group B with a 1-0 victory over Margibi County’s Thunder FC in their final group fixture, before delivering another 1-0 win over Tebeh FC to lift the national championship trophy.
