MONROVIA – On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the Government of Liberia and the Republic of France, represented by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), signed US$ 1.2 million as a grant financing agreement geared towards an ongoing scholarship program.  The signing, which is considered as a boost to the country’s economy, will finance phase 2 of the ongoing “scholarship program”, and will provide additional opportunity to over forty Liberians youth to study at the Institute of National Polytechnique Houphoet-Boigny, in the Ivory Coast.

Abidjan – The Board of directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved financing for the Emergency Food Production Program in Liberia, paving the way for the government to support farmers to increase climate resilient food production and mitigate the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Board approved a grant of $2.28 million and a loan of $2.84 million from the Bank’s Transition Support Facility, on 22 November 2022.

MONROVIA – The United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador for Africa on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, Jaha Dukureh, has spoken about introducing a program called initiation without mutilation in efforts to end FGM in Liberia. “I think Liberia can end FGM by replacing positive traditional practices with harmful traditional practices. And one way we can do that, is to introduce a program called; ‘initiation without mutilation’. It will be nearly impossible to go into communities and tell people to abandon their traditional beliefs. It won’t happen in Liberia, if we tell the people to close the bush schools…

MONROVIA – On Thursday, November 17, 2022, Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa (VOSIEDA) signed a 20 million SEK grant agreement with the Swedish Embassy in Monrovia. The amount, if converted at the current rate, is equivalent to 1.9 million United States Dollars. The grant will support over 60 farming groups in rural Liberia, particularly Nimba County, through low-carbon / climate-smart agriculture initiatives. It is expected to impact over four thousand two hundred (4,200) farming households or 21,000 farmers.

Monrovia – A delegation from the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA)   Customs Department has arrived in Liberia on a study tour at the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA). The two-week visit will enable the team to gain deep knowledge and understanding of the system, activities, and procedures of the LRA Customs Department Post Clearance auditing processes.
