Monrovia – Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield has pledged her government’s support to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) while hailing it for the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
“Liberia cannot afford to lose the fight against illicit drugs,” she says.
Madam Greenfield made the assertion when she paid a visit to the headquarters of the DEA to assess the level of progress the entity is making to combat illicit drug trafficking.
She recalled years back when the DEA was hosted in a dilapidated building, adding that she is proud of the level of work that has been done by the agency.
“I expect greater things, and our expectations are extremely high. The U.S government and I are proud of the partnership.”
The U.S Assistant Secretary for Africa Affairs urged staffers at the DEA to continue with the hard work and hold on to their integrity.
DEA Director, Anthony Souh said the agency is imbued with joy by the visit of Madam Greenfield.
“Since you left DEA have been going from strength to strength, we are very happy that you have singled us out,” Souh added.
He said the agency has trained one hundred and fifteen new recruits, adding that training is an important component in strengthening the sector.
The DEA Boss thanked the U.S government for installation of an E-learning computer lab.
Madam Greenfield’s arrived in Liberia on Sunday, May 15, 2016 for a 3-day official visit.
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on Monday, May 16, 2016 received the visiting American delegation.
The delegation will meet several groupings and individuals, including Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, the leaderships of both the Senate and House of Representatives, representatives of Political parties, amongst others.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf acknowledged that the visit comes at a very important time considering Liberia’s pending economic and political transition, stressing that her government is pleased with the continued support of the American Government.
