Monrovia – The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) says it will by next week complete the water treatment plant rehabilitation that will restore pre-war capacity of the plant and are also developing independent water system in two communities in Monrovia.

According to Mr. N. Hun-By Tulay managing director LWSC, the two communities include; the Soul Clinic community and the New Georgia community. The installation will mean the two communities will no longer rely on the water supply from the White Plains, with the establishment of an independent service with boreholes.
Tulay said: “We will have an independent service with an elevated tower with boreholes so even if White Plains go out these communities can go 24 hours with water supply. We also realize that there is a serious problem of sanitation in these communities so we will prove pro-flush latrines for those without flush toilet in their homes.
“We want to provide the service that the people need, that is our mandate.”
He also disclosed that the LWSC with assistance from the USAID will begin to do the installation of water supply equipment in three cities which include; Robertsport, Voinjama and Sanniquelle by the 18th of October 2017.
As part of the World Bank support to water and sanitation in Liberia LWSC boss told journalists at a news conference Friday that the World Bank is financing the transmission and distribution water supply system to Monrovia.
He furthered boasted of training and having the human resource capacity to run the LWSC which he said is being supported by the African Development Bank. He said, efforts are also underway by the LWSC to encourage the World Bank to contribute to the sanitation and sewage problem of Liberia.
In an effort to address challenges faced by customers of the Water and Sewer Corporation to pay bills, the Corporation has entered into agreements with Lone Star Cell MTN and Orange to provide a system where bills can be paid through their mobile money platforms.
“We were struggling to see how we can help our customers to reduce the burden of standing in long queues to pay bills as low as US$ 10.00. So we believe with this mobile money system put in place by the two cell phone companies, customers will find it easy to pay their bills.”
