FRTUL Nimba Branch Honors Superintendent Gono, Declares Her ‘‘Chief Driver’’ For Nimba County

Bahn City, Nimba County – The Nimba County Branch of the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL) has honored Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeah Gono and declared her the “Chief Driver” for Nimba County.

The honor was bestowed on her during a colorful ceremony held in Bahn City to dedicate the Federation of Road Transport Union’s newly constructed terminal in the city.

The event brought together transport union officials, drivers, local government representatives and residents of Bahn City.

Union’s Reason for the Honor

Speaking at the ceremony, FRTUL Nimba County President Martin Beito said the union’s decision to honor Superintendent Gono and named her ‘‘Chief Driver’’ for the county was based on the strong working relationship between her administration and the union.

Beito said Superintendent Gono has continued to demonstrate strong and inclusive leadership across Nimba County’s 19 administrative districts.

He noted that her administration has supported the Federation of Road Transport Union and its members, helping to improve the environment in which drivers and transport operators work.

According to Beito, the honor was not a mistake or a symbolic gesture, but a recognition of Superintendent Gono’s dedication to the people of Nimba County, including members of the transport union.

A Growing Union Presence

The FRTUL Nimba County Branch is described as one of the oldest transport unions in the county.

Under the current leadership of President Beito, the union has expanded its operations to six major cities in Nimba County, including the Lougattuo Border Area between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire.

The union has also developed modern terminal facilities across the county, providing designated spaces for drivers, passengers and transport businesses.

The newly dedicated Bahn City Terminal is part of that expansion and is expected to improve order, safety and coordination within the local transport sector.

Former Union Leader Joins Tribute

Samuel Saye Hardt, a former Vice President of the Federation of Road Transport Union and current Mayor of Ganta City, also attended the ceremony.

He thanked the union for honoring Superintendent Gono, describing the recognition as well deserved.

Hardt praised the superintendent for her leadership and continued support for initiatives that benefit ordinary citizens, including drivers and other transport workers who play a vital role in connecting communities across the county.

Superintendent Gono Responds

In response, Superintendent Gono expressed appreciation to the Federation of Road Transport Union for the honor bestowed on her.

She pledged her continued support for the union’s activities in Nimba County.

Superintendent Gono announced plans to engage the Nimba County Nine-Man Council, the county’s key decision-making body, regarding the possible use of the County Social Development Fund to support union activities.

She said the proposal is based on the important work the union continues to carry out across the county.

“Drivers play a key role in society,’’ Superintendent Gono said.

“They carry the lives of several people every day, and as such, they are very important to our communities.”

She further described drivers as essential partners in development, noting that their work supports trade, education, healthcare, agriculture and family life throughout Nimba County.

Commitment to Continued Partnership

Superintendent Gono reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to working with the Federation of Road Transport Union to strengthen transport services in Nimba County.

She encouraged union members to remain united, disciplined and committed to safe driving practices.

The ceremony ended with applause from union members and residents, as Superintendent Gono was formally recognized as the ‘‘Chief Driver’’ for Nimba County.
