KPASSIGEZEA, Lofa County — James Papy Kwabo on Monday visited the newly completed wooden bridge connecting Kpassigezea and Ziggida, describing the project as a significant community achievement and calling on the Government of Liberia and development partners to support the construction of a permanent concrete bridge over the Via River.
The bridge was completed through a community-led initiative, with Mr. Kwabo providing key material support, including logs, timber, steel rods, nails, and funding for the clearing of the project site. Residents of Kpassigezea and Ziggida contributed labor throughout the construction process, resulting in the successful completion of the wooden bridge.
The completed structure now provides safer and more reliable access for residents, students, traders, farmers, motorcyclists, and other travelers who depend on the crossing for transportation, commerce, education, and other daily activities.
During the visit, Mr. Kwabo commended residents of Kpassigezea and Ziggida for their unity, resilience, and voluntary contributions, saying the successful completion of the bridge demonstrates the impact of collective community action in addressing local infrastructure challenges.
While welcoming the completion of the project, Mr. Kwabo emphasized that the wooden bridge should serve as an interim solution. He urged the Government of Liberia and development partners to support the construction of a permanent concrete bridge, noting that such an investment would improve public safety, ensure year-round access, facilitate trade and agricultural activities, and strengthen access to schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential services for residents of Kpassigezea, Ziggida, and neighboring communities.
Residents who attended the visit welcomed the completion of the bridge, describing it as a long-awaited development that has restored safer and more reliable movement between the two communities. They also expressed hope that the Government of Liberia and its development partners would build on the community’s efforts by supporting the construction of a permanent concrete bridge.
Mr. Kwabo is seeking to represent Lofa County Electoral District #5, which comprises the Zorzor and Salayea Administrative Districts. He said he hopes the successful completion of the community-led wooden bridge will encourage greater investment in rural infrastructure projects that improve connectivity and support sustainable development across the district.
