MONROVIA — In a bid to promote youth empowerment and strengthen the country’s sporting culture ahead of Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebrations, the Ambassador for Youth and Sports Development, Alieu Kebe, has donated a consignment of sports equipment to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

The presentation ceremony held at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia featured newly acquired football jerseys, balls, and other gear presented to President Boakai, who serves as the nation’s Chief Patron of Sports.
The donation represents Ambassador Kebe’s personal contribution toward the successful observance of the historic anniversary on July 26.
Displaying the items during the ceremony, Ambassador Kebe emphasized that sports remain one of the most effective tools for national unity, talent discovery, and social transformation.
“Sports have the power to inspire, unite, and transform the lives of young people,” Kebe stated during the presentation. “My commitment is to continue supporting initiatives that provide opportunities for Liberian youth to discover and develop their talents.”
Kebe expressed gratitude to President Boakai for his continuous support toward advancing the national youth and sports agenda.
He reaffirmed his dedication to working alongside stakeholders nationwide to strengthen grassroots programs and create pathways for young athletes.
Investing in Liberia’s Youth Demographic
The initiative comes at a critical time for the nation’s demographic landscape. Young people under 35 constitute over 60 percent of Liberia’s population of more than five million, making youth-focused investments essential to the country’s broader development strategy.
Receiving the donation, President Boakai commended Ambassador Kebe for the gesture and urged him to maintain his drive for grassroots sports development.
Welcoming the contribution as an example of shared national responsibility, the Chief Patron of Sports stressed that the future of Liberian athletics relies heavily on identifying and nurturing talent at an early age.

Liberia boasts a rich athletic history most notably in football, which remains the country’s passion.
The nation famously produced global icon George Weah, who remains the only African to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
