Monrovia—The Coordinator of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) Network of Liberia, Madam Decontee Eva George, has called for stronger solidarity and support for women across Liberia and around the world as the country joins the global celebration of International Women’s Day 2026.

In a special statement marking the occasion, Madam George praised the resilience and contributions of women, describing them as the backbone of families, communities, and peacebuilding efforts.
“Women continue to hold families together, nurture communities, and contribute quietly but powerfully to peace and development,” she said, noting that many of their sacrifices often go unrecognized.
Madam George disclosed that women from CPS Network partner organizations will participate in the national International Women’s Day celebration organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and its partners.
According to her, the participation will provide an opportunity for women to share experiences and amplify their voices on issues affecting their lives and the future of their children.
Madam George acknowledged the progress made in advancing women’s rights globally, stressing that many women and children continue to suffer the devastating effects of conflict and instability.
Recounting the recent crises in the Middle East, including Gaza, Madam George referenced reports from the United Nations indicating that women and children make up a significant portion of those affected by violence and humanitarian emergencies.
“These tragedies remind us that the struggle to protect human life, dignity, and peace remains urgent,” she said.
Madam George highlighted several social challenges confronting women, including poverty, drug abuse among young people, and the growing number of women and children selling goods along busy roads to support their families.
“Under the hot sun and in dangerous traffic, many women and children risk their safety every day just to feed their families or pay school fees,” she stated, adding that many mothers carry enormous responsibilities while dealing with domestic violence, abandonment by partners, and the difficulties of raising children alone.
The CPS Coordinator revealed that she issued the statement while mourning the sudden passing of her mother, describing the loss as a reminder of the quiet strength, love, and sacrifices women make in holding families together during difficult times.
She also expressed appreciation to Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt) in Germany for its continued support to the CPS Network’s peacebuilding, human rights, and gender inclusion initiatives in Liberia.
According to Madam George, the partnership has enabled communities to resolve conflicts peacefully, strengthen social cohesion, and empower women to speak out for their rights.
She, however, urged communities and institutions to stand in solidarity with women everywhere and create environments where women and girls can live safely and pursue opportunities.
“Women deserve safety, fairness, respect, and equal opportunities to build better lives for themselves and their children,” she said.
Madam George stressed that building a Liberia and a world where dignity, equality, and hope are realities for every woman and girl requires collective action and commitment.
She at the same time extended warm greetings to women across Liberia and beyond, wishing them a meaningful International Women’s Day celebration.
