Liberia: Nabala Residents Appeal to LAF for Track and Field Trainers

Sherman also pledged the community’s willingness to support the program by providing sporting equipment needed for training.

Monrovia – Residents of the Nabala Community in Paynesville, Montserrado County are calling on the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) to deploy professional trainers to their community to help nurture the growing interest in track and field among local youth.

Community member Tonea Sherman, speaking on behalf of parents in the area, said there is a strong passion for athletics among children aged 13 to 17. However, he noted that the absence of structured training and professional guidance is a major challenge.

“We want the Liberia Athletics Federation to help us with trainers who can teach our children proper track and field techniques,” Sherman said. “We have observed for over two to three years that a large number of our children are showing real passion for athletics.”

He emphasized that parents in the community are ready to work in partnership with any LAF trainers assigned to the area. According to Sherman, youth in Nabala are regularly seen engaging in informal training in track and field, football, and basketball.

He believes that with the right support, the community could produce future athletes capable of representing Liberia both locally and internationally.

“We are making this call to the LAF because that federation is the godfather of track and field in Liberia,” Sherman stated. “It is time for us as parents to take the initiative and call the attention of LAF. We believe they can help to better prepare future athletes.”

Sherman also pledged the community’s willingness to support the program by providing sporting equipment needed for training.

“It is our responsibility as parents to support our children. If the trainers request any sporting equipment, we will do our best to make it available so that our children can fully develop their skills,” he said.

Residents of Nabala hope that the LAF will respond to their request by visiting the community and witnessing firsthand the level of interest among the youth. They believe that with proper training, these young athletes can become competitive on both national and international stages.
