Monrovia – Representative Richard Nagbe Koon of Montserrado County District #11 is facing divorce proceedings filed by his wife, Cecelia Kpor Koon, amid serious allegations of adultery, emotional abuse, and desertion.

The case, filed at the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, comes at a time when Koon controversially claims leadership of the House of Representatives under the self-proclaimed “Majority Bloc.”
According to court documents, Mrs. Koon is seeking an end to their nearly nine-year marriage on grounds of “incompatibility of temper, adultery, and desertion.”
The couple married in Delaware, USA, on July 29, 2015. However, Mrs. Koon alleges that the relationship began deteriorating in 2018, coinciding with her husband’s political ascent. In her complaint, she accuses the lawmaker of engaging in extramarital affairs, including a relationship with a woman named Gifty Faikai, who she claims bore his child in the United States.
She also cites a U.S. immigration case involving another woman, Christiana Belloh Tue, who reportedly filed a petition identifying herself as Koon’s wife. According to Mrs. Koon, that petition was ultimately denied, but it led to the surfacing of documents suggesting bigamy and possible forgery.
Additionally, Mrs. Koon claims she was promised two duplex properties in Maryland, USA — gifts she alleges were documented in writing. However, she asserts she has been cut off from those properties and left without support.
“I’m not just fighting for a divorce; I’m fighting for my peace of mind, my dignity, and my future,” said Mrs. Koon, who remains based in the U.S.
Her legal representation, Kailondo & Associates Law Firm, has urged the court to proceed swiftly. A Writ of Summons has been issued, requiring Rep. Koon to respond by May 1, with a hearing scheduled for June 16.
The case is likely to attract political attention in Monrovia, where Rep. Koon’s leadership claim already faces internal resistance. The outcome could have implications for both his personal reputation and political career.
