MONROVIA – Liberia’s Posts and Telecommunications Minister, Cllr Cooper Kruah Sr., has confirmed that the official launch of Liberia’s National Digital & Postal Addressing System (NDPAS) will take place on April 25, 2023.
The NDPAS is designed to provide Liberians with a unique 5–7-digit alphanumeric address code (e.g., Monrovia 499-GUA), which can be shared with trusted contacts to direct them to their exact location using any mobile phone mapping system of their choice, according to a release.
The NDPAS will empower individuals, businesses, and public services to move about more efficiently, creating a positive impact on national security, healthcare, public administration, and tourism. It will also enhance public service delivery and promote economic growth within Liberia.
“The NDPAS will enable more efficient allocation of resources and services, ensuring that the needs of the population are met promptly and accurately. It will simplify day-to-day location-related activities and make it easier for Liberians to access essential services like healthcare, education, sanitation, and emergency response,” the release issued by the NDPAS Committee, which comprises the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in collaboration with SnooCODE Limited said.
This important event, the release added, is expected to attract key stakeholders, including government officials, private sector representatives, and members of the public, all of whom will witness the historic launch of the NDPAS.
A memo issued by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications quotes Minister Kruah as saying that the upcoming launch will mark a significant milestone for the project and is the culmination of hard work and dedication from stakeholders involved.
The Minister urged all stakeholders to ensure that they are registered with a unique digital and postal addresses as soon as possible to take advantage of the benefits of the NDPAS.
This system will enable faster and more efficient service delivery, reduce costs, and improve the overall quality of life for all citizens.
“We will like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who has been involved in the development of the NDPAS. Your contributions have been invaluable, and we appreciate your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the Project,” the Minister said in the memo.
Liberia, Africa’s oldest republic does not have a standard addressing system, and owing to this, direction prove to be challenging, especially for foreign nationals arriving here for the first time.
However, the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications is determined to address the situation.
Nearly a year ago, the Government of Liberia, through its Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, entered into an agreement with SnooCODE Limited to provide Liberia with a NDPAS.
The agreement was officially unveiled on Monday, April 11, 2022 when the Ministry hosted a media launch to introduce the NDPAS Project to relevant stakeholders. That event was attended by Minister Kruah who chaired the meeting, and Sesinam Dagadu, the Founder and CEO of SnooCODE. Minister Kruah explained that a competitive tender was announced by the Ministry in January 2021, to which about 10 interested local and foreign companies responded, with SnooCODE Limited emerging the winner in July 2021.
