Monrovia – St. Maria Goretti Institute has dedicated its first state-of-the-art building to boost education in the Township of Caldwell, Montserrado County.
The newly established school constructed the modern facilities in order to add to the quality education that it provides to its students.
The institute, which is operating its second academic year, was established by couple Alexander Berrian and Monica S. Berrian.
It is supported by one of Liberia’s foremost educators, Sister Mary Laurene Brown.
The ground of the school contains a children’s playground; it also has a well-equipped laboratory, a computer lab and a library, according to the Mrs. Berrian.
Another remarkable feature this school has is a bus to take pupils to and from school.
Speaking during the dedication ceremony February 26, Madam Berrian, who is the school’s principal, said her family established the school in order to alleviate the many constraints that parents were going through by sending their children to school outside the Township.
She further stated that the school presently operates from nursery to fifth grade; adding that the it will expand to grade 12 within few years.
Principal Berrian said, “Our goal here is to make sure that each Liberian child has quality education regardless of gender, religion or whatever.
“Our facility was built in a child-friendly way to welcome all of the children whether from Caldwell, Diggsville, Louisiana or wherever; our doors are open.”
She added further: “We have our reading room, which was given to us by Sis Mary Laurene Browne. It’s called Sis Mary Laurene Browne Resource Center.
This center will not only be used for our students, it will be opened to all students in Caldwell.”
She called on parents to move the school forward.
Also speaking, the Director for Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Reuben Duo, praised the institution for their effort in uplifting the education system in the country.
Duo stated that the Education Ministry is faced with the problem of decentralization, and this something he said has caused lots of students to drop out of schools.
He further added, “I want to thank all of you who put resources together to make this dream come through”.
Making remarks also, Caldwell Township Commissioner Jimmy C. Diggs, Sr. said their children won’t have to leave the Township now in search of quality education.
“To the St. Maria Goretti Institute, the Township of Caldwell appreciates your effort. We will do everything within our power to make this institution a place of excellent,” Commissioner Diggs said.
