President Weah Tours Liberia Maritime Training Institute’s Facility

Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, State, Defense and other dignitaries visited the Liberia Maritime Institute and tour the facilities.

They later met with representatives of LiMA and LISCR clothe with the responsibility of managing the Liberia Maritime and Corporate Programs.

Mr. Avi Zaidenberg, General Manager of LISCR and Chairman of the Board of the LMTI welcome President Weah and the cabinet to the premises of LMTI and stated that the institute is presently undergoing a complete rehabilitation and is about two-thirds completed.

It is already a state of the art institution with modern equipment, facilities and 24 students/cadets are presently enrolled

In his remarks, President Weah spoke about the Liberian Maritime Program, International shipping in general, its uniqueness and how it touches every aspect of mankind but is not easily realized.

The local Fanti community presented President Weah with a traditional gown.

He called for the protection of the country’s exclusive economic zones for the protection of local fishermen and women.

Commissioner Kollie thanked the President for honoring the invitation and reiterated that the students will be positioned to work at sea or onshore at the end of their two-year program.

He also advised that the institute is working towards ensuring that the credits obtained would be transferable to higher institution should they desire to do so.

Subsequently, President Weah did a pass in review of the cadets and then toured the campus. He thereafter, held a briefing session with officials of LiMA and LISCR.

After the briefing session, the President and cabinet members had lunch with the officials of LiMA and LISCR along with the students/cadets.
