President Sirleaf Urges Liberians Not to Lose Track of Safety Measures

Monrovia – President Sirleaf has urged Liberians not to lose track of all safety measures in the conduct of their lives. She called on Liberians to observer the right safety measures at all times and celebrate the construction of the building.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the statement on Thursday, October 05, 2017 during an official program making the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, National Reference and Regional Reference Laboratory Building located in Congo Town.

President Sirleaf furthered call on the public to guide themselves against ugly practices that could lead to another health crisis.

She made reference to regular hand-washing by various households across the country; describing the groundbreaking ceremony as “worthy project of celebration.” She said by ensuring continuing observance to medical safety measures will make Liberia safe.

The Liberian leader used the occasion to applaud the international community for working along with administration country’s challenges including the recent Ebola outbreak that took away many lives; emphasizing the need for reflection on those difficult days sitting around the table with partners to find solutions.

“Today, we can’t help but reflect on those days when we sat amongst team of officials of all branches of government confused; perplexed, about what was happening in our country, the disease that we did not know,” she noted.

For her part, U.S. Ambassador to Liberia Christine A. Elder said the United States Government is proud to be part of the effort aimed at strengthening the public health sector and reaffirms its commitment to collaborate on the health safety and security of Liberia including shared global community.

She furthered, the facility is more than a building describing it as a “Platform”, which according to her will achieve the advances and results in health that are urgently needed.

Also making remakes, the Director General of the National Public Institute of Liberia, Tolbert Nyenswah described the groundbreaking ceremony as an incredible millstone towards preventing, detecting and responding to public health threats in the country and globally. He used the occasion to thanked President Sirleaf for all support to the health sector.

Meanwhile, in a related development, President Sirleaf made a brief stopover at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center following the ground breaking ceremony where she had gone to identify with patients, doctors and nurses and as well get an update on happening at the hospital.

President Sirleaf thereafter visited the Chicken Soup Factory Community to encourage electorates to vote for Augustus Zaza, Jr. who is a Representative candidate in the October 10 Presidential and Representatives elections.
