Monrovia – The work that is being done by the Women’s Situation Room (WSR)-Liberia has not gone unnoticed by Liberians and the international community.
Their effort was recognized by the Liberian leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who was visited by, at her Foreign Affairs office in Monrovia, prominent women from the African continent.
These women are working along with the WSR-Liberia.
As part of the gathering, the delegation of women headed by Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh, head of the WSR-Liberia, updated President Sirleaf of the gains they have made thus far since the President launched the WSR on October 8, 2017, just two days before the October 10th Presidential and Legislative Elections.
Cllr. Chesson-Wureh informed President Sirleaf that since the launching of the Room, they have had series of activities geared towards cautioning Liberians to maintain the fourteen years of uninterrupted peace Liberia now enjoys.
She also stated how they have rolled out other activities leading to the setting up of two physical situation rooms.
Cllr. Chesson-Wureh said, “These include the setting up of a mini-call center during the voters registration, talking bus, which captured issues from communities in hotspot counties, youth peer-to-peer process, youth peace torch, the 15,000 women peace march for peaceful elections, training for yanna boys and followed by the ECOWAS peace summit.”
She also informed President Sirleaf that the WSR held a summit for youths from Paynesville and other parts of Liberia where they pledged to observe peaceful elections.
She went on further to tell the President that the WSR has documented 784 election incidents collected from the field.
Cllr. Chesson-Wureh presented a press statement of all of their activities to the Liberian Leader for her perusal.
Responding, President Sirleaf praised the group for the level of work they are doing to ensure that peace is maintained.
“Every one of you in here has busy schedules, but you left them and dedicated yourself to peace; I want to thank you for this sacrifice,” President Sirleaf told them.
The Liberian leader cautioned the women to remain on the path of peace that they have dedicated their lives to.
Madam Sirleaf also told them that as the organization has been working to keep the peace, she will ensure that the transition plan works so as to continue with the work that is being done by the women group.
