ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Liberia and Egypt have taken significant steps to strengthen bilateral relations with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on diplomatic training and academic exchange during the African Union Summit on February 15, 2026.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, and H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The agreement establishes a partnership between Liberia’s Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute and Egypt’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies, aimed at strengthening diplomatic capacity through training programs, academic exchanges, joint research, and professional collaboration.
During the signing ceremony, the two ministers reflected on the longstanding ties between the two nations.
Minister Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, congratulated Liberia on its election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), and expressed confidence in Liberia’s leadership in advancing Africa’s interests.
Discussions also focused on military, police, and intelligence cooperation, as well as collaboration in energy, food security, diplomacy, and political consultations—both for coordination of African positions at the United Nations and for bilateral purposes.
Minister Nyanti welcomed Egypt’s proposals and expressed appreciation for its support of Liberia’s successful UNSC bid. She proposed the convening of a Liberia–Egypt Business Forum and suggested a State Visit by President Boakai to Egypt, a proposal welcomed by the Egyptian side.
As immediate outcomes of the engagement, Egypt committed to sponsoring five Liberian participants for diplomatic training in Egypt, while discussions continue regarding the proposed State Visit of President Boakai in August, as well as an invitation for Minister Nyanti to sign a Joint Commission Agreement in April.
