Speaking at the Pinning Ceremony for the AFL’s new Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, President Boakai emphasized his administration’s resolve to build a military that is not only respected within Liberia but also recognized regionally for its strength and professionalism.
“We will ensure that the army is respected and recognized as an institution that serves the country,” President Boakai declared. “We will do everything in our power to make the AFL the best in the region and guarantee the trust and security of our people.”
Boakai acknowledged the crucial role the AFL plays in Liberia’s national security, stressing that the military is composed of dedicated men and women who tirelessly serve the nation.
However, he also noted that challenges remain, particularly in the timely implementation of key reforms and initiatives that are essential to strengthening the army’s operational capacity.
“The road ahead is not without its difficulties,” he admitted, “but we are committed to addressing these issues, ensuring that our armed forces are equipped and capable to meet the demands of national security.”
The ceremony, held in Monrovia, saw Brigadier General Davidson Forleh promoted to Major General and Colonel Theophilus Dana elevated to Brigadier General.
Both men have served the AFL with distinction for over 18 years in various capacities, and their promotions reflect their unwavering dedication to Liberia and its security.
On behalf of the honorees, Major General Forleh vowed to uphold and defend Liberia’s Constitution against all threats, both foreign and domestic.
He urged AFL personnel to serve with patriotism, diligence, and a commitment to the preservation of peace and security in Liberia.
“We are committed to ensuring that Liberia’s military remains a force for good and a pillar of national strength,” Major General Forleh said, expressing a deep sense of responsibility in his new role.
In his address, President Boakai also acknowledged the sacrifices made by AFL members and thanked them for their dedication to the nation.
He underscored Liberia’s historical role in regional peacekeeping, stressing the need for national unity as the country faces an increasingly complex regional and global security environment.
The AFL has long been a significant part of Liberia’s history, and the president’s commitment to transforming it into a modern, well-trained military force is seen as crucial to the country’s long-term security.
However, President Boakai’s administration faces growing concerns about the army’s capacity to address both internal and regional security challenges, particularly as instability in neighboring countries continues to rise.
To meet these challenges, the AFL will require substantial investments in modern training, advanced military technology, and increased resources.
The government’s continued focus on military development will be vital to ensuring that the AFL is capable of maintaining national security and playing a key role in regional stability.
The ceremony also highlighted Major General Forleh’s international achievements, including his work with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and as Liberia’s defense attaché to the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
His extensive leadership experience is seen as an asset to Liberia’s evolving military.
With these changes, and the promise of further improvements, President Boakai is sending a clear message that his administration is committed to ensuring that the Armed Forces of Liberia become a cornerstone of national security and a respected institution on the regional stage.
