Speaking at the All Africa Conference of Churches in Freetown, Sierra Leone, he made emphasis on the reported ongoing persecution of Christians, along with issues such as kidnappings, killings, and intimidation in the region.
Bishop Brown emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among Christian churches and organizations to support those facing these threats.
“The current challenges require an all-hands-on-deck strategy to find solutions,” he stated.
He called for the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in West Africa (FECCIWA) to actively promote the dignity of all individuals, encouraging member councils and churches to develop strategies aimed at peace, security, and food security as part of regional poverty reduction efforts.
He also stressed the importance of advocating for environmental justice and raising awareness about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Bishop Brown reaffirmed FECCIWA’s role in working with member churches to combat SGBV and to provide safe havens for victims, disclosing that he envisions a strong, vibrant ecumenical movement that champions the causes and aspirations of the region through advocacy, training, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Addressing key issues such as justice, peace, reconciliation, and climate change, he noted that these are essential to uphold the dignity of all, including vulnerable groups.
He stressed the importance of demonstrating God’s love through community activities.
Bishop Brown reiterated that FECCIWA provides a platform for theological reflection, inter-religious harmony, and leadership training for member organizations.
He expressed hope for greater unity among Christian communities, especially as the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) celebrates its centennial.
Bishop Brown, however, called for collaboration between CCSL and FECCIWA to advance the Christian community’s collective mission in the region.
