The school is the only public school in that area. The discovery according to the community was made last week Thursday July 21 and was subsequently turned over to state security.
According to Mr. William Fore the man who made the discovery, the ammunitions close to five thousand in number were discovered during one of his day hustle as he stated uprooting a tree for the purpose of coal burning.
He said after digging few minutes around the tree he came across a barrel buried beneath the soil filled with ammunitions bulk of which were relatively new.
Fore said: “I saw it and got afraid so I decided to call the community chairman to tell him about what I discovered. He advised that I call the Police and they came and collected the ammunitions but since then I haven’t heard anything about it on the media I am concern.”
The Boyce Town community play host to several senior officials and some elite minority citizens including House Speaker Alex Tyler, Gender Minister Julia Duncan Cassell, Defense Minister Brownie Samukai amongst others.
Fear grips residents
Mr. Richmond Tymond, Community Chair has expressed fear over the discovery of the ammunitions and wants government to institute a vigorous search as he believes arms could also be buried somewhere in the ground where the ammunitions were discovered.
Tymond said: “If we can discover ammunitions I believe we could discover arms also. Because the ammunitions don’t work without the arms so who ever buried the ammunitions there has the arms somewhere so we want a security search carry out.”
For his part Mr. Taponresa Tanpoweh a prominent resident of the community wants government to increase Police presence in that area.
According to him he is one Liberian who believe Liberians can handle their own security in the wake of UNMIL drawdown but said that can only be done with support to the security sector.
He also wants the National Legislature to allot money to the security of the country. “Our Police officers are up to the task we believe that to the letter but been up to the task without support makes you inefficient”.
He added “If the Police is affected the citizens are affected and it is just the matter of time that we will begin to see these things”.
Police spokesman confirmed that the ammunitions were discovered in the community and said they are currently in the custody of the Police.
