Monrovia – Opposition leader Alexander B. Cummings of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) says all Liberians should be very alarmed by the alleged disappearances of containers and bags of moneys amounting to L$16 billion from the Freeport of Monrovia.
“I want to say formally, all Liberians should be demanding an independent investigation,” he said on Sky FM in Monrovia on Tuesday morning.
According to Cummings, when the Liberian market is flooded with “bogus money” (unaccounted for money), the Liberian dollar is going to depreciate further. “You’ve excess money going after goods and services, inflation is going to increase, the price of everything is going to up and some people will be personally benefiting because we don’t know where that money went.”
He blamed the failure of the George Weah administration to conduct an audit of the past regime combined with its recklessness of not wanting to follow up on alleged corruption that occurred in the previous government as reasons why the country is faced with such a situation.
The former corporate executive said the at the moment the image of Liberia internally and externally does not look good and that the government at this point in time must be thinking about going in the right direction.
