Monrovia – As the October 10 election campaign begins, the Liberians Change Movement (LCM) is calling on all patriotic and dedicated citizens and civil society organizations to make the campaign period an issue-based campaign instead of personal attacks.
“As Liberia officially begins her campaign season for the next two and a half months, let us in unison develop a chain of citizens, regardless of party affiliation to put key issues that will economically liberate Liberia and Liberians at the center of the campaigns,” LCM said.
The group is also calling on the public to visit various universities, schools, market grounds, and local communities nationwide and worldwide to present the issues to the citizens to serve as mandated issues coming out of the elections to the fore-runner candidates.
“We are taking the first step to come up with three issues.”
That a framework to distribute mechanize farm size of not less than two hectares per family to at least five thousand ordinary citizens per county beginning 2018 for rice, palm and cocoa be placed on the ballot”.
According to the group, the three liberalization of the commerce and trade environment is subsequent institution of a new policy that stipulates at least 51% verifiable Liberian ownership of all businesses transactions involving government and concessionaire contracts for goods and services.
LCM says the support to an independent private sector driven public private partnership business support entity to drive the business development and linkages efforts for Liberian businesses.
“Heavily re-negotiate the APM Terminal agreement to work in the interest of Liberians and Liberia at not less than seventy percent in favor of Liberia or be forced to scrap said agreement,” LCM says.
“With just these 3 proposals, which we believed will bring tremendous cash flows into the hands of Liberians and Liberia eventually leading to the creation of prosperity for Liberia and Liberians, can be better tailored to suit Liberia and Liberians, if our sound and best minds from the various political parties and interest groups think through and debate these plus more important ones in their platforms.”
