MONROVIA –The Unity Party(UP) Legislative Caucus has commended the Government of Liberia(UP) for what it described as swift and decisive action against officials allegedly linked to the recent drug seizure in the country.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, the Caucus said the actions taken by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s Administration demonstrate a strong commitment to transparency, accountability and the fight against illicit drugs, transnational organized crime and drug trafficking.
The Caucus, through its Chairman, Bong County Electoral District #4 Representative, Robert Flomo Womba, emphasized that no individual, regardless of status or position in government or society, should be above the law when credible allegations of involvement in drug-related crimes arise.
The UP lawmakers called on the Ministry of Justice and the Joint Security to conduct a comprehensive, impartial and professional investigation into the matter.
They stressed that anyone found guilty through credible evidence and due process should be prosecuted in accordance with Liberian law, while those found innocent should have their names publicly cleared.
It also urged Liberians, particularly political leaders, commentators and members of the public, to avoid politicizing the ongoing investigation.
According to the Caucus, the fight against illegal narcotics is a national responsibility that transcends political affiliations and attempts to exploit the case for political advantage could undermine public confidence and interfere with law enforcement efforts.
Furthermore, the UP legislative group commended the Joint Security, under the leadership of the Ministry of Justice, for its continued efforts in investigating the case and encouraged citizens to cooperate with investigators by providing any credible information that could assist the probe.
Reaffirming its commitment to combating drug trafficking and organized crime, the UP Legislative Caucus pledged to support stronger legislation, effective legislative oversight and policies aimed at protecting Liberia’s security and upholding the rule of law.
In a related development, the UP Legislative Caucus has extolled President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration for the recent dedication of the newly paved 81-kilometer Gbarnga–Salayea Road and launching additional road projects in Bong and Lofa Counties.
The Caucus described road infrastructure initiatives as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to improve transportation, promote economic growth and enhance the livelihoods of Liberians.
Accordingly, the Caucus noted that the completion of the Gbarnga–Salayea Road provides a critical transportation link between Bong and Lofa Counties.
“This will reduce travel time and transportation costs while improving the movement of people and goods. The project will boost agricultural production, expand trade and stimulate economic activities across central and northern Liberia,” read the statement.
The Caucus also applauded the Boakai’s Administration for securing US$72.8 million financing from international development partners to pave the next phase of the corridor, including the 50-kilometer Salayea–Konia Road and the 6-kilometer Zorzor–Yeala Road.
It urged contractors to complete the projects professionally and within the agreed timelines to ensure Liberians benefit from the investments without unnecessary delays.
Meanwhile, the UP Legislative Caucus has announced a proposed three-day legislative retreat in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The retreat is intended to assess the performance of the UP-led Government, develop a strategic roadmap for the Caucus over the next three years, strengthen coordination among lawmakers and prepare members of the National Legislature for the next phase of legislative work.
It indicated that the retreat will provide an opportunity to assess the government’s achievements, identify areas requiring improvement and recommend practical measures to enhance public service delivery, examine emerging national challenges, and promote stronger collaboration between the Executive and Legislative branches.
