Monrovia – The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has underlined the importance of the integrity institutions to successfully introduce a strong public-sector integrity regime and improve the effective use and management of public resources. The UNDP says, it sees the message of the Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Samuel Tweah at the hosting of the 1st Stakeholders’ Audit Forum in Liberia as a strong political will to establish stronger public financial management sector.
These architectures, according to UNDP, will help to conserve and improve the use of Liberia’s scarce resources, if put into effect.
According to a release, the UNDP emphasized the significant role the forum organized by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) played in bringing together Liberia’s major pillars of integrity.
These pillars of integrity include Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, General Auditing Commission, Internal Audit Agency, Public Procurement Concession Commission, Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, Civil Service Agency and the civil society.
“This recognition and compliment gives a substantial reason for hope and optimism to push for a strong accountability system with improved resource efficiency,” the communication stated.
In addition, UNDP pointed out the importance of judicious public resource management as a key component in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and lifting vulnerable and disadvantaged groups out of poverty, a cornerstone of the President’s vision as expressed in the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).
At the same time, the GAC has lauded the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for its continuous support to the work of the Commission.
The UNDP, according to a GAC release, immensely contributed to the successful hosting of the Commission’s 1st Stakeholders’ Audit Forum.
The Forum which brought together stakeholders from government and development partners deserve recognition from the UNDP for its full financial and substantive advisory support that facilitated the planning and fulfillment of the event.
Approximately 400 senior level public officials comprising heads of government Ministries, Agencies and Commissions, as well as representatives from the international donor communities were in attendance.
