Liberia: Ruling Party Candidate John Weah Describes Saturday’s Bloody Riot as “Unfortunate”

The ruling party’s Montserrado County District 13 by-election candidate, Mr. John Weah, has termed the Saturday’s bloody election violence as unfortunate

Monrovia – The ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate in the Montserrado County District 13 by-election, Mr. John J. Weah, has described last Saturday’s bloody riot as unfortunate. He further stated that it brought the district to public disgrace and disrepute.

“Last Saturday’s event was just an unfortunate situation. I know it is under control now. It was so unfortunate that we regret it. As people are putting it that some of our residents died, it is a blatant lie; nobody died as far as I am concerned.”

He made the statement in an interview with reporters at the William Gabriel Kpolleh Memorial High School, New Georgia Estate, where he had gone to cast his ballot. This polling center is the biggest in the district.

Candidate Weah also refuted allegations of Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee’s involvement in the bloody riot, which took Facebook by storm.

“It is also a blatant lie that Jefferson Koijee and members of the CDC were going around with cutlasses and guns. CDC can never go about with cutlasses or guns, no! It is not true.”

The CDC representative hopeful also denied allegations of registering in Grand Kru County as has been speculated.

Weah stated that his presence in the race is a hope and clear indication that development is underway for the people of District #13, Montserrado County.

“My being here today proved that development is on the way for the people of District #13 through John Weah. I have the highest chances. This is not my first time; I contested as an independent candidate in 2011 and came second to the CDC candidate.

“This time 2018 I am a candidate of the ruling establishment, so I have my base. I got almost 5,000 votes as an independent candidate in 2011 and I still maintain that base. And now that base has been increased by the CDC base. CDC voters and people from others political parties, UP, LP, ANC, ALP among others who believed in John Weah. John Weah is the only best person in the race,” he praised himself.
