Liberia: RAL President Hails China for Sending 25 Liberian Journalists to Beijing for Capacity Building

MONROVIA – The President of the Reporters Association of Liberia, J.H. Webster Clayeh, has lauded Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu for what he described as extraordinary leadership in providing capacity-building opportunities for Liberian journalists.

Clayeh’s commendation follows China’s decision to sponsor another 25 Liberian media practitioners to participate in a media communication capacity-building seminar in Beijing, China.

The seminar, which is being held under the theme “Seminar on Media Communication Capability,” is scheduled to run from October 14 to October 27.

According to the RAL president, the latest delegation further demonstrates China’s continued commitment to strengthening the capacity of Liberian media practitioners.

Since 2023, about 100 Liberian media practitioners have traveled to China to participate in various media-related seminars and capacity-building programs.

The latest initiative comes three months after Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu served as guest speaker at the 7th Induction Ceremony of the Reporters Association of Liberia, held at Sinkor Palace in Monrovia.

During that ceremony, Ambassador Yin pledged to work closely with the new leadership of RAL to enhance capacity-building opportunities for media practitioners in Liberia.

In a release, Clayeh said capacity building remains paramount to the work of every reporter and expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for providing Liberian journalists with opportunities to expand their professional knowledge and skills.

The RAL president also pledged to continue promoting the friendship between Liberia and China.

“China means well for Liberian journalists and so we as media practitioners need to take advantage of the opportunity,” Clayeh said.

He highlighted the growing number of Liberian journalists who have benefited from training opportunities in China.

“In 2023, the Chinese government took 25 journalists to Beijing City to participate in a seminar for Liberian Media Think Tanks and Senior Scholars; in 2025, 30 journalists were also sent to China to participate in a seminar on Media Communications Capacity for Liberian journalists in Changsha City, Hunan Province, and now an additional 25 journalists are going to Beijing to participate in another seminar. This is marvelous,” he said.

Clayeh described the continued training opportunities as significant for the Liberian media sector.

“To have more than close to 100 journalists traveling to China within three years for capacity building is something that we will never forget. Thank you Ambassador Yin,” Clayeh said.

Ambassador Yin Reaffirms China-Liberia Media Ties

On July 10, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu attended the 7th inauguration ceremony of the Reporters Association of Liberia, where he delivered remarks in the presence of Information Minister Hon. Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Presidential Press Secretary Hon. Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, and other media representatives.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Yin commended the Reporters Association of Liberia for its contributions to the development of Liberia’s media sector and to strengthening China-Liberia friendship.

Responding to questions from Liberian journalists about China’s governance system, Ambassador Yin emphasized the role of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the country’s development.

Over the past 105 years since its founding, the CPC has remained committed to serving the people wholeheartedly, demonstrated the courage to struggle, attached great importance to its own building, stands independent and self-reliant, and maintains a global vision, achieving historic accomplishments,” Ambassador Yin said at RAL’s 7th induction program in July.

The Chinese ambassador also encouraged Liberian journalists to continue providing objective coverage of China while contributing to relations between the two countries.

“We welcomed Liberian journalists to continue reporting on China in an objective and balanced manner and to contribute to the friendship between the two countries,” Ambassador Yin said.
