MONROVIA – As several high schools from across the country prepares to descend upon the capital for the National High School Championship, the Principal of Nathan F. Reeves Charity Memorial High School, Pastor Shadrick B. Cassell II, says his institution is not just participating they are ready to defend their territory.

In an exclusive interview with FrontPage Africa, Pastor Cassell described the school’s qualification for the national stage as a defining moment of prestige for both the faculty and the student body.
“We are excited and honored to participate in the National High School Championship,” Cassell said. “It is a moment we have eagerly anticipated. We look forward to interacting with schools across Liberia while carrying the pride of our institution on our shoulders.”
The championship, which gathers the elite sporting programs from Liberia’s 15 counties, is viewed as the premier scouting ground for emerging football talent and a bridge for national unity among the youth.
Beyond the Pitch: Morale and Enrollment
While high school athletics in Liberia often lacks the massive sponsorship deals of professional leagues, Pastor Cassell emphasized that the “return on investment” is measured in corridors and classrooms, not just trophies.
“High school football greatly enhances morale and serves as a powerful magnet for students from surrounding communities,” he noted.
“Every child wants to attend an institution that balances rigorous academics with elite athletics. That is exactly the environment we have cultivated at Nathan F. Reeves Charity Memorial high school.”
The Target on the Defending Champions
Entering the tournament as the defending champions, Nathan F. Reeves Charity High School carries the heavy burden of expectation.
Pastor Cassell acknowledged that while his squad is the “team to beat,” they are not resting on previous laurels.
“We understand the target is on our backs,” he admitted. “While we may be less familiar with the tactical styles of the schools coming from the leeward counties, we are committed to evaluating every opponent fairly and preparing with discipline.”
He issued a stern warning to contenders: “We respect every team, but we are prepared to give 150 percent to overcome any challenge in our path. We are playing for the championship, nothing less.”
A Vision for School Improvement
For Nathan F. Reeves Charity Memorial High, a victory would offer more than just bragging rights. The tournament features a significant cash prize, which the principal noted would be injected directly back into the school’s infrastructure.
“Our primary goal is to showcase talent and build friendships, but the financial reward will go a long way in improving our facilities for the benefit of all our students,” Cassell explained.
