Monrovia-The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) has officially launched its E-Border Solution Foundation Pilot Project at the Farmington Hotel near Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Margibi County.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, LIS Commissioner General, Elijah F. Rufus, described the event as a significant milestone in Liberia’s border management and security architecture.
“It is with profound honor and great pride that we gather here today for the official Go-Live ceremony of the Liberia E-Border Solution Foundation Pillar Project,” Commissioner General Rufus stated.
According to him, the project serves as a critical operational bridge toward the broader Liberia E-Border Solution envisioned by the Government of Liberia(GoL).
He emphasized that the initiative will strengthen border security, improve immigration management, enhance data collection and analysis and support the modernization of border control systems nationwide.
The LIS Commissioner General noted that Liberia is now positioned to transition from fragmented and largely manual systems to a modern, technology-driven operational environment capable of enhancing security, improving efficiency, strengthening accountability and supporting informed decision-making.
He further explained that the initiative reflects the Government of Liberia’s commitment to responsible innovation, institutional modernization, and stronger inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding the nation’s borders.
Commissioner General Rufus extended special appreciation to the LIS development partners for supporting the implementation of the project in Liberia.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Defense, Senator Cyrus Momo, expressed gratitude to the project’s development partners for introducing the initiative to Liberia.
He pledged to advocate for continued legislative support to ensure the project’s long-term success and sustainability.
Earlier, SOMAPA IT Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Subhaprasert Wongsuwan, reaffirmed his company’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s border transformation efforts.
“We have worked with the Liberia Immigration Service in several areas, including training personnel in advanced border management technologies,” Mr. Wongsuwan said.
He emphasized that SOMAPA IT does not deliver a completed system and expect countries to simply adopt it. Instead, the company works closely with stakeholders to develop solutions tailored to national needs.
According to him, the Foundation Pilot Project represents the first phase of a larger border modernization initiative in Liberia.
The E-Border Solution Foundation Project will begin operating as an entry and exit management system at Roberts International Airport starting June 1 for an initial pilot period.
The initiative demonstrates SOMAPA IT’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s border transformation process.
Mr. Wongsuwan disclosed that engineers from his company are currently in Liberia to assist LIS personnel with system installation, training, and live operational support.
Representatives from various government ministries and agencies also delivered remarks during the ceremony, highlighting the importance of technology-driven border management and inter-agency collaboration.
