Liberia: Five-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Joe Blow Town, RIA Community in Margibi

Margibi County—A five-year-old boy identified as Devine Mulbah has reportedly drowned in Joe Blow Town near Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Lower Margibi County.

According to report, the incident was reported to authorities at approximately 7:35 p.m. on June 6 when the Community Chairman, Jol A. Zangar, informed police about a drowning case in the area.

Following the report, officers from the RIA Police Depot proceeded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to the community residents, upon arrival, investigators observed that the scene had already been disturbed.

The body of the child was found near the water bank and had been covered with palm leaves by community members who had gathered at the location.

According to the victim’s grandfather, Pely Sumo, the victim Devine Mulbah had gone to the water side with five other boys between the ages of five and eight years to fish and bath.

During the activity, the child reportedly drowned.A fifteen-member coroner’s jury was constituted to examine the body.

Following its examination, the jury concluded that there was no evidence of foul play and determined that the child died as a result of accidental drowning.

Meanwhile, family members accepted the findings of the jury and requested the Liberia National Police, through the Crime Services Division at RIA, to release the body for burial.
