Monrovia — Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has strongly refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that she is lending support to the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). The Nobel Laureate, in a fiery response, dismissed the claims as “damn stupid” and described those behind the report as “lazy” and “bored.”

Speaking in an explosive telephone interview with talk show host Julius HJeh, Sirleaf, who currently divides her time between her farm and the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, said she has been occupied with her private engagements and has no interest in partisan politics.
“I am here on the farm, been here for three days, didn’t even know what’s going on in the city,” she said. “But let me say this in response: those people who put this crap, this nonsense on social media, they must just love my name. They must just love me and keep their mouth off me. And what they have just said is damn stupid. Anybody who put that crap out there, I say they are damn stupid. Please repeat it for me and say it. Put it there in the media. Let everybody hear exactly what it is. Then maybe they will stop these damn lies.”
Sirleaf further clarified that she has had no contact with the CDC and has not been approached for political support.
“Let everybody hear it well… No CDC person has reached for support. They have no reason to call me for support. I’m busy with my things I do, with my Center, with my farm. I’m out of their damn politics,” she emphasized.
The former president, who led Liberia from 2006 to 2018, lamented what she described as the “sensational” nature of Liberian politics, which she said undermines genuine efforts toward national development and reconciliation.
“That’s why the politics here is so terrible, because it’s so sensational, and it can make people so tired,” she noted. “People want to do the good things for the country. You want to promote the good part of the country. You want to be supportive to all the agencies of government. You want to support the President in everything he does, if it’s in the interest of the country. And every day somebody comes up with some nonsense or the other. It’s so dark and sickening. I just wish Liberian people would just get to work. They’re so bored with laziness, that’s why they can’t work.”
Sirleaf added that instead of fueling division, Liberians should focus on promoting unity and reconciliation.
“Yeah, I’m working so hard. All they do is creating problems with people, creating tension in the country, trying to divide people when we’re trying to promote reconciliation. And they’re creating all kinds of things to cause trouble,” she said.
Sirleaf’s outburst comes amid heightened political tensions, as opposition and ruling party supporters intensify rhetoric ahead of future elections.
Contrary to viral social media report that former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf had identified with the country’s main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), the former Liberian leader has distanced herself from said allegation, which she described as a “nonsense.”
There had been widespread speculation linking her to the donation of US$15,000 and 1,000 bags of cement toward the construction of the CDC new party headquarters in Congo Town.
It can be recalled that a fortnight ago, the headquarters of the CDC was demolished following a court order. The party has since earmarked the construction of a new headquarters.
And in a bid to make this a reality, political leader and former President George Manneh Weah formed a special committee tasked with overseeing the construction of the new headquarters. The CDC National Headquarters Construction Committee, is responsible for mobilizing resources and ensuring the facility is completed within one year.
The committee is chaired by former House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, with Senator Nathaniel F. McGill serving as Co-Chairman. Former Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. will act as Advisor, while Mr. Lenn Eugene Nagbe, COS to former President Weah, is designated as General Coordinator.
Accordingly, former President Johnson-Sirleaf who is alleged to have made meaningful contributions towards the project, spoke via mobile phone on the OK Conversation on OKFM on Monday, September 1, 2025, and denied ever making any financial or material contribution towards the CDC’s headquarters building projects as alleged.
She noted that those that are hatching spreading such fake news on social media are just dam ‘stup*d’ and those who just love her name.
“Julius, I am glad you say allegedly. I am here on the farm, been here for three days, didn’t even know what’s going on in the city. But let me say this in response. Those people who put this crap, this nonsense on social media, they must just love my name. They must just love me and keep their mouth off me. And what they have just said is damn stup*d,” she stated.
“Anybody who put that crap out there, I say they are damn stu**d. Please repeat it for me and say it. Put it there in the media. Let everybody hear exactly what it is. Then maybe they will stop these damn lies. Thank you Julius for calling me. Please, just tell it. Let everybody hear it well, okay? Okay, never, never. No CDC person has reached me on no support.”
The former Liberian chief executive maintained that most besides, the CDC as a party, has no reason to call her for support and has not done so in the first place, adding that she has been so busy with a lot of things on her farm as she now out of every “dam politics”.
She described the current state of Liberian politics as terrible and sensational – that which has the propensity discourage people from doing good things for the country.
“You want to promote the good part of the country. You want to be supportive to all the agencies of government. You want to support the president in everything he does, if it’s in the interest of the country,” the “Iron Lady” maintained.
“And every day somebody come up with some nonsense or the other. It’s so dark and sickening. I just wish Liberian people would just get to work. They’re so bored with laziness, that’s why they can’t work. Put it, put it any way you want, put it to
Yeah, I’m working so hard. All they do is creating problems with people, creating tension in the country, trying to divide people when we’re trying to promote reconciliation. And they’re creating all kinds of things to cause trouble.”
“Alright, you got my answer here. Put it on every way you want, put it on, put it all over the country; put it on social media, put it on Facebook, put it on Instagram, put it everywhere you want, put it there,” former President added in a vexing tone.
