Liberia: All Set for 2025 World Water Day Football, Kickball Championship, Say Organizers

Paynesville – Sixteen high schools within Montserrado County will participate in this year’s World Water Day Football and Kickball Championship (18 – 21 March, 2025) as part of a broad strategy to maximize awareness of the global observance of World Water Day on March 22, 2025, among students. The games will be held under the auspices of National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Commission (NWASHC) in collaboration with WASH stakeholders.  The theme of this year’s observance is “Glacier Preservation.”

The participating sixteen high schools are World Wide Mission (2024 Defending Champions), Nathan E. Gibson (2019 Defending Champions), Gray D. Allison, Carver Mission Academy, Len Miller, St. Simon Baptist, Kings and Queens International School, A.M. Fofana, New Destiny Christian High School, Kendeja High School, First Assembly of God-Buchanan Street, Muslim Congress, E. Jonathan Goodridge, James Doe Young, St. Michael High School, and Assembly of God-Caldwell.

The games will be played simultaneously at four venues, namely Right To Play Field, Alpha Field, Stephen Tolbert Field, and Slipway Field from 18 – 21 March, 2025. Additional awareness of the Day will be created with the involvement of more than 1,500 students of the sixteen high schools participating in an essay competition regarding the theme of this year’s observance: Glacier Preservation.  The WASH Commission and other stakeholders, including MOH, WaterAid Liberia, LWSC, UNICEF, Samaritan Purse, Catholic Relief Services, MPW, and NPHIL, will also participate in interactive sessions with students of World Wide Mission High School and Len Miller High School on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and Thursday, March 20, 2025, respectively to familiarize students with WASH activities in Liberia.

Cash prizes and trophies will be presented to champions in football and kickball.  However, runners-up will receive only cash prizes.  In addition, a cash prize will be presented to the winner of the Best Essay competition while his/her participating high school will receive trophy.

The games (3rd Edition) are being organized by National High School Sports, an organization that promotes sports and education as an inseparable component to support youth development and empowerment. The organization has collaborated on similar projects with National Malaria Control Program/Global Fund, Ministry of Finance, UNESCO, WaterAid Liberia, Central Bank of Liberia, Liberia Telecommunications Authority, The Last Well, etc.   National High School Sports also organized the first-ever nationwide High School Football and Kickball Championship in Liberia in 2017, with the participation of more than 200 high schools.

At Alpha Oldtimer’s Field (kickball and football): A.M. Fofana vs New Destiny Christian High School @ 12:00pm (KB) and 2:00pm (FB); Nathan E. Gibson vs Kendeja High School @ 1:00pm (KB) and 3:30pm (FB).

At Right To Play Field (kickball and football): Kings and Queens International School vs Carver Mission Academy @ 12:00pm (KB) and 2:00pm (FB); Len Miller vs St. Simon Baptist @ 1:00pm (KB) and 3:30pm (FB).

At Slipway Field (kickball and football): Gray D. Allison vs Muslim Congress @ 12:00pm (KB) and 2:00pm (FB); World Wide Mission vs First Assembly of God-Buchanan Street @ 1:00pm (KB) and 3:30pm (FB).

At Stephen Tolbert Field (kickball and football): E. Jonathan Goodridge vs Assembly of God-Caldwell @ 12:00pm (KB) and 2:00pm (FB); James Doe Young vs St. Michael High School @ 1:00pm (KB) and 3:30pm (FB).
