This initiative was specifically designed to enhance accountability and improve citizens’ access to public information within government ministries and agencies.

The training took place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at the Civil Service Agency EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia. The event brought together departmental and sectional heads from various Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs), who participated in a comprehensive session aimed at promoting good governance.

The Executive Director of the Independent Information Commission (IIC),  Lorpu P. Page, giving the overview of the training, said the training aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the Freedom of Information Law (FOI), a critical step toward ensuring that citizens can easily access information from public institutions.

According to her, the training will enhance accountability, strengthening transparency within public institutions, and also directly improve service delivery to the Liberian people.

Also speaking during the program, CENTAL’s Executive Director, Anderson Miamen, said access to public information is an empowerment tool in line with Article 15(c) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, which outlines the rights of freedom of expression with emphasis on “government educating the public through adequate information.

“We want to make this point here, that freedom of information law is an important instrument backed by the 1986 constitution of Liberia and also the international framework, and as government and CSOs, our foremost priority should be to provide proactive information to the public,” Miamen added.

The session, which ran from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, was a collaborative effort between the IIC and CENTAL with a shared commitment to building a more transparent and accountable public sector in Liberia.
