Bopolu District, Gbarpolu County – The re-election bid of Gbarpolu County District #1 Representative Alfred G. Koiwood got a big boost over the weekend when residents of three communities within the district endorsed his candidature in the ensuing elections.

At an elaborate endorsement ceremony in Guyanta, the residents of Gbarquoita, Frewhenta and Guyanta said they were supporting the incumbent lawmaker based on his representation and the numerous development programs he has undertaken.
They named the sponsoring of bills, robust advocacy, construction of schools and clinics, rehabilitation of roads, electrification of their towns and villages, provision of scholarships, and the empowerment of the locals through skills training and giving out loans as some of the development programs he initiated.
“With all assessments and observations as regard your achievements as our representative over the period under review, we have decided to present to you this petition statement to affirm our support to your re-election process at the Legislature come October 10, 2017,” they declared.
In the endorsement statement read by Nathan David, they recounted the incumbent lawmaker’s sponsorship of several bills, one of which led to the elevation of Henry Town in Korninga Chiefdom to a city status and the establishment of a magisterial court in Gungbeyai Chiefdom, Bopolu District.
In addition, they asserted that Hon. Koiwood’s advocacy has led to legislative budgetary support to the Bopolu Bible Mission School (US$30,000), the Chief Jallah Lone Medical Health Center (US$50,000),and the Gbaryamah Community Clinic (US$24,000) among others.
For his legislative support projects, they counted the construction of schools in Gbarkay Town, Goltoma, Small Bong County, MunbletaBondi Mandingo Chiefdom and a market hall in Jallah Lone Town with the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) as an implementing partner.
They also named the rehabilitations of six and eight-mile roads connecting the county’s capital, Bopolu City, to their towns and the injection of over LD$2,000,000 toward several villages saving financial clubs as a means to empower the locals and the provision of scholarships as some meaningful contributions for wish they want him to ascend to the 54th National Legislature.
Accepting their endorsement, the Gbarpolu County lawmaker thanked the natives for recognizing his effort and pledged his unflinching support towards the development of the district and the County.
“This request was not asked for or purchased. But you sat down and look at my activities and that inspired you to take this decision,” he said.
“Therefore, I Hon. Alfred G. Koiwood, son of Gbarquoita, Frewhenta and Guyanta accept your endorsement,” he averred.
The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) strongman used the occasion to rubbish allegation that he is using public funds to undertake projects in his name, noting that it is impossible as an opposition to be awarded such favor by the Executive.”
He called on them not to be carried away as the allegations and rumors are the works of his opponents and detractors intended to tarnish his reputation and good relationship he has built with them over the years.
He vowed to use his personal earnings in the interest of his people.
Following the dedication of the road linking Bopolu to the nearby towns and villages, Koiwood launched the Guyanta Village Saving club with LD$400,000 and called on every resident including men, women and students to form part of the club.
He challenged the students of the county to make use of the extension of the Bomi County Community College (BCC) in Gbarpolu.
