MONROVIA- FrontPage Africa has reliably learned that SN Brussel is set to resume its flights from Brussel to Monrovia following assurances from the Liberian authorities that the glitches have fixed.
The deplorable state of Roberts International Airport’s safety measures led to a sanction from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the cancellation of the only Europe-bound flight from Liberia this week.
A statement from SN Brussels disclosed that it was forced to cancel its flights between Brussels and Monrovia because the Roberts International Airport was suffering from certain deficiencies that do not allow them to dispatch their aircraft and have them perform an approach and landing in accordance with their operating procedures.
The action of SN Brussels, which has for the past three months been landing using its own systems and by sight, was in line with Belgium’s Aviation laws which prevent its aircraft from landing without a functioning navigation system.
However, just a day after its cancellation, the airline announced that it is resuming its flights from Europe to Liberia effectively immediately following assurances from the Liberian authorities that glitches have been addressed.
A communication confirming the resumption states: “On Friday, 16th September, Brussels Airlines received official confirmation from the local authorities that the required technical and operational prerequisites to operate are fulfilled. The Belgian airline will therefore resume its operations between Brussels as of this moment, with a next scheduled fight on Sunday, 18th September.”
Meanwhile, the news of flight resumption has brought relief to dozens of passengers scheduled to fly on Sunday.
A passenger who visited SN Brussel’s office in Monrovia said he was assured that the flight for Sunday still stands.
The situation at RIA has been a headache for SN Brussels, given it has for the past three months been landing using its own systems and by sight, FPA gathered.
