Liberia: New Political Party, People Liberation Party (PLP), Accredited And Certificated By National Elections Commission
MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially accredited and subsequently certificated the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) as a new full-fledged political party in Liberia.
The party was certificated and accredited at a brief ceremony held at the headquarters of the NEC on Monday, December 21.
Presenting the certificate of accreditation, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Counselor Davidetta Browne-Lasannah, pointed out that the certification of the PLP comes following weeks of engagements between organizers of the party and authorities of the commission.
She disclosed that the party has met all of the requirements under the laws of Liberia to become a full-fledged political party in Liberia.
“Today we are here to certificate the proposed People’s Liberation Party following weeks of engagement with the commission to become a full-fledged political party in Liberia”.
“The commission notes that having applied for status and having met all requirements under the law, I have the honor on behalf of the Board of Commissioners to present to you Honorable Tapple E. Doe, the Organizing Chairman of the PLP to present this certificate to enable your party to function as a political party in the Republic of Liberia”.
Earlier on, the Co-Chairperson of the NEC, Cllr. Teplah Reeves welcomed officials of the newest political party in Liberia.
She further assured PLP’s officials and members of the commission’s fullest support, but urged the party not to relent on serving in the interest of the Liberian people.
“It is of a great pleasure that members of the Board of Commissioners would like to welcome the proposed People’s Liberation Party to be the newest member on the block. Please assure of the commission’s fullest support as you join as one of our stakeholders. Go and serve well in the interest of the Liberian people”.
For his part, the Organizing Chairman of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Mr. Tapple E. Doe, expressed thanks and gratitude for the certification and accreditation of the PLP.
He described the certification of the party as a formal license to work in the interest of the Liberian people.
“Today, on behalf of the leadership and members of the People’s Liberation Party, it is my honor to receive this certificate. This certificate formally authorizes the PLP to operate in the country as a bonafide political party organization. We know that this certificate confers upon us the fullness of rights and privileges accorded all registered political parties”.
“Importantly also for us, we view this certificate as a formal license to work more assiduously, and as best as we can, to positively influence the deepening of Liberia’s young democratic culture”.
Organize differently; act responsibly
Mr. Doe assured that the PLP will not be like other political parties that are operating in Liberia.
According to him, the party commits to “organize differently, and act responsibly, so as to earn the respect, trust and confidence of the Liberian people”.
Mr. Doe added that the PLP is for all Liberians, including the young, old, the haves, the have-nots, educated, uneducated, adding that, “ it is for all our people that we have organized this party”.
Change, Freedom, Respect for Rule of Law
Mr. Doe pointed out that the PLP was established to ensure change, freedom and the respect for the rule of law in Liberia.
“It is for a better Liberia that we have come to exist. It is for change, freedom and the respect for the rule of law and to seek the best for our country-to seek the best for our children, and their children-that we have come to exist”.
The PLP Organizing Chairman pointed out that the party also intends to be what he called “good exemplars”.
According to him, PLP will “give back to our country with honor and integrity” and cares for the conditions of others so that everyone can have a chance to be lifted up.
Unity and peace
Mr. Doe added that the PLP will also “dutifully” pursue peace and unity in the development of Liberia.
“We have organized ourselves into the People’s Liberation Party. As our motto states ‘The Time Is Now’ and we are ready”.
