‘Demolishing People’s Homes to Tarnish Government Will Fail’— Unity Party Chairman Luther Tarpeh

Monrovia— Unity Party Chairman Luther Tarpeh has condemned the ongoing demolition of properties in parts of Monrovia, describing the actions as unacceptable and politically motivated.

Tarpeh said the wave of demolitions is allegedly intended to undermine the stability of the current government and provoke public unrest.

He stressed that such actions will not be tolerated, warning that any attempt to make the government appear ineffective through the destruction of citizens’ homes would ultimately fail.

The Unity Party Chairman made the remarks on Thursday evening in Saye Town, where he donated LRD 800,000 to more than one thousand residents who were rendered homeless following a recent mass demolition exercise in the area.

While interacting with the displaced residents, Tarpeh disclosed that he would pursue a legal inquiry into the matter, particularly allegations that affected occupants were not served prior notice before the demolition was carried out.

He also questioned why similar demolition exercises were not conducted during previous administrations, suggesting selective enforcement of the law.
