Monrovia – Members of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) grew furious Monday after discovering that one of the institution’s campaign banners bearing the image of Senator George Weah was torn by unknown persons.
The banner is located at the Slip-Way and Water Street Intersection closer to the Liberia National Police Zone #2 Depot-1.
The party sees the proximity to the Police station as its biggest frustration.
“Our biggest frustration is the Police. Look right across the road, the Police is squatted right there,” said Jefferson Koijee, CDC Youth Wing Chair.
“The Police sit right here and witness electoral violence being perpetrated.”
“Is this not a concern of the Police?”
The tearing of the CDC banner comes amid a warning from NEC to the public to stop the defacing of political parties campaign materials.
Mr. Koijee said he sees it as a fuss intended to provoke the party’s supporters to anger.
Addressing reporters at the Slip-Way intersection, he said he blames detractors who, according to him, are losing grip on the electoral process.
“We’ve being informed that our detractors, who are beginning to lose election, are going from street to street and tearing our banner and I have come to warn you young people that do not dance to the gallery of their tactics,” Koijee said.
This is the first incident reported thus far about the tearing of banner since the start of campaigning on July 31, 2017.
