MONROVIA – The Montserrado County by-elections started with a rare restriction – no mobile phones allowed. This was never seen during previous elections.

MONROVIA – Climaxing of campaign activities turned bloody on Saturday in District 15, Montserrado County after supporters of the opposition coalition candidate, Telia Urey and the ruling CDC candidate’s supporters clashed in a stone-throwing riot.

MONROVIA – The Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of Liberia and the United Nations regarding the AFL’s contribution to the UN Peace-keeping Operations in Mali (MINUSMA). This MoU now solidifies the contribution of the Armed Forces of Liberia to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mali.

MONROVIA – Students of the University of Liberia, specifically members of the campus-based political group – the Student Unification Party (SUP) – are resolved to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations unless the University’s faculty are paid their salary arrears.

Kakata – In an effort to broaden the understanding of local government officers on the new Local Government Law of Liberia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Monday, July 22, began the conduct of the first in series of nationwide training in Kakata, Margibi County. 

Buchanan – The Liberia National Rural Women on Monday, July 22,  concluded a day’s “experience sharing and networking” training for 50 of its members from across Liberia.

Ganta, Nimba County – Dayspring Bible College, which over the weekend graduated 26 men and women, was one of those higher institutions of learning that were ordered shut down in June 2018 by the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) for operating “illegally”.

July 26 is observed every year as a national holiday in Liberia. It is a day set aside to commemorate Liberia’s independence. The festivities surrounding this day is dramatized by thunderous explosions of fireworks, public displayed of national flag and donning attires that reflect national pride, etc. Though this day was officially reserved as a public holiday in 1956 with the passage of the “Patriotic and Cultural Observances Law”, Title 26, the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes as far back as 1847, when the Colony’s Legislative Council entered into a memorandum of understanding with the American Colonization Society (ACS)…

New York – The Republic of Liberia through the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations is poised to submit to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for adoption, a draft resolution on the “Proclamation of September 28 as the International Day for the Universal Access to Information”.
