Liberia: President Boakai to Receive Prestigious Africa Peace Leadership Award, Headline Global Forum in California

Washington, D.C. – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, will serve as keynote speaker and be honored with the Africa Peace Leadership Award at the 34th Annual Africa Peace Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Sacramento.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the event is organized by the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution and will take place at the university’s Alumni Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

The invitation was extended by Luke Wood on behalf of the institution.

The award recognizes President Boakai’s longstanding commitment to peacebuilding, democratic governance, and ethical leadership. His administration has emphasized national reconciliation, institutional reform, and inclusive governance, positioning dialogue and accountability at the core of Liberia’s continued recovery.

Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, Al-Hassan Conteh, underscored the significance of the honor. “The selection of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., as both keynote speaker and recipient of the Africa Peace Leadership Award affirms his enduring dedication to peace, democratic governance, and principled leadership. It also highlights growing international recognition of his efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and promote sustainable peace.”

He added that the recognition reflects Liberia’s ongoing post-conflict transformation and its active role in advancing global peacebuilding efforts.

President Boakai’s leadership continues to highlight Liberia’s experience in reconciliation, resilience, and recovery—offering valuable lessons for nations navigating complex political transitions.

The honor comes at a pivotal moment as Liberia strengthens its global engagement, including its tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, where it advocates for peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation.

The Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution at California State University, Sacramento, is internationally recognized for its work in conflict prevention, peace education, and Africa-focused policy engagement.

The annual Africa Peace Awards celebrate individuals and institutions that advance peace, stability, and reconciliation across the African continent.
