Monrovia – In the wake of the prevalence of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) or Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) amongst youths and adult alike due the result of unsafe sexual habits, the Youth Action Movement also called YAM – Liberia has carried out awareness of contraceptive usage and the distribution of condoms in and around Monrovia.
The exercise which began with the washing of public vehicles and the distribution of condoms at working offices and NASSCORP in Sinkor could be seen with crowd gathering to receive condoms.
According to its Youth Focal Officer, Joyce Faith Keneah, the youth wing had been down due to the Ebola crisis in Liberia when they took to volunteering during the crisis to create awareness on the effect of the deadliest disease which took so many lives in West Africa.
She said that many of the volunteers who took to creating awareness of the Ebola virus got affected and lost their lives.
This created a wave of panic amongst volunteers which led to the breaking up of the group.
She noted that the group had finally decided to carry out their volunteerism activities as they are prepared to carry out awareness on Sexual and Reproductive health life of young people.
Speaking to this paper over the week, the coordinator of the YAM – Liberia, Leroy Sayon Johnson expressed deepest gratitude to his colleagues for the exercise so far, and how they can do more for upcoming programs they might hold.
He further encourages young people to embrace the awareness of the use of contraceptive so as to prevent them from getting STI or STD.
