University of Liberia Receives Letters of Credence from Indiana University

Monrovia – The President of the University of Liberia, Rev. Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson has received Letters of Credence and Medallion from the University of Indiana based in the United States of America.

The instruments were presented to Dr. Nelson in Liberia over the weekend through Prof. Dr. Amos C. Sawyer who has shared many years in higher education at Indiana University and was one of those responsible for the establishment of the relationship between Indiana University and the University of Liberia.

The presentation of the instruments comes as the two Universities renew their relationships which had slowed down due to some reasons.

Dr. Nelson has described the renewal of their relationships as an additional blessing, and applauded Prof. Dr. Sawyer for using the opportunity in reigniting the relationship between the two schools.

He said the President of the University of Indiana thought it was important to look at the possibility of the renewal of the partnership and MOU between the University of Liberia and Indiana University.

“Indiana University helped us many years with our law school. There are lots of graduates at the University’s Law School who are from Indiana, our nursing program, our Public Health Program. We will be having those relationships over the years or so,” Dr. Nelson said.

He explained further that  there are several faculty members at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia that are graduates of Indiana University, besides closely working with UL on its Public Health Program.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nelson reveals that Dr. Sawyer has shared with him Indiana University’s interest in UL’s Communication and Radio Network to use it as a medium to reach more people in Liberia on health education and other issues.

The UL President calls for the collective efforts of his team of administrators at the University, the Government of Liberia, the Alumni Association, students and staff of the University to help make a major difference at UL.

“All of us can do this and if we’re all on the same team, I believe we can make a major difference,” Dr. Nelson said, as he applauded the Government of Liberia for its continuous support to the University which according to him has jumped from US$1.4m to US$16m over the past 10 to 15 years.

Meanwhile, The President of the University of Liberia has extended commendations to the Vice Presidents, Deans, Faculties, Administrative Directors, Staff, Students and Securities of UL for their hard work during the course of the year 2019.

Dr. Nelson also extended special appreciation to the Visitor of the University and President of the Republic of Liberia, George Manneh Weah and the Board of Trustees for their support to the UL.

The UL President cautions the University Family to celebrate the Festive Seasons with joy and peace, saying nothing can be done in the midst of chaos. According to Dr. Nelson the University should be a place where its people should keep talking and resolving their issues internally.

The University President assured that his doors will always be open for dialogue, as finding common ground internally can get a better image for the University.

Dr. Nelson believes that protecting the peace in the country will also be a contribution in the existence of the University as it continues to mold the minds of young people.

He has also assured the University that 2020 will be a wonderful year for the Institution, with the blessing of the Board in the direction that he suggested that the University needs to do curricular review, faculty development and Information Communication Technology (ICT) innovation and resource mobilization which are key pillars that will help the University.

Dr. Nelson states that the partnership between the Government and the University, the Board of Trustees, and the Alumni will make a very big difference as they go forward.
