Monrovia – The Alumni Association of the University of Liberia (AAUL) has donated assorted office materials, valued at US$11,118.00, to the administration of the university in a bid to help ease clerical burden.
The donation include two pieces of Digital Canon copiers, two external hard drives (terabytes), two hundred pieces of armed chairs and printing machine (for marking of chairs & copiers).
The President of the UL Alumni Association, Mr. James S. Davies, II, made the donation yesterday in the Conference Room of the UL’s Administrative Building.
The AAUL President, also formally launched the erection of the Alumni Center (Hall), with the cost of US$25, 366, 78, which will include offices, reading rooms, computer labs and conference rooms, amongst others.
He further launched the Endowment for Scholarship for students in the tone of US$5,000.
According to Mr. Davis the donation is part of the University Alumni Fund (ULAFUND), a drive which was launched in April 2016 to raised US$2m to tackle the financial difficulties of the University.
The ULAFUND would include short, medium and long-term approaches, and all funds collected will be directed toward faculty and infrastructural development (internet facility, library, laboratory, alumni center, computer labs, electronic processing equipment and scholarships).
According to the ULAFUND, the drive is expected to be characterized by presentations underscoring the achievements and challenges of the UL as well as soliciting financial contributions in cash or kind from invited stakeholders and the general public.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ophelia I. Weeks, on behalf the UL’s administration thanked the AAL for the office materials, noting that the items have come in a timely manner for the institution of higher learning.
