Washington DC – The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has commenced a major Educational Development Project in Liberia.
The project was initiated last Tuesday with the renovation of the of the Sackie Gbomoh Town Public School located on Bong Mines Road, in Kakata, Margibi County.
The project includes the full renovation of the school, the procurement of blackboards, and provision of over 700 chairs for the student population.
The final phase of the renovation will involve the construction of a 6 room’s annex, which will provide additional accommodation for students, a cafeteria, and bath room facilities for both students and faculty members.
The ULAA’s Educational Development Project in Liberia will be administered by Mr. Garrison F. Togba, Jr., the newly appointed ULAA Executive Director Designate in Liberia.
Mr. Togba who was recently appointed by ULAA President Wilmot Kunney to run the day to day operations of ULAA in Liberia is a former President of the Liberian Association of Pennsylvania. He will conduct the affairs of the Union in close consultation with ULAA Country Representative Eminent Anthony V. Kesselly.
The Sackie Gbomoh Town Public School is one of many struggling schools in Kakata, Margibi County, and was selected by ULAA as part of its Liberia Development Agenda.
The school has a student population of over 700, drawn from 25 towns and villages in the Kakata area.
The assistance to the school comes against the back drop of appeals from citizens and students for assistant from Liberians and their various organizations abroad in improving the learning environment for Liberian students especially at the primary level.
Consistent with these appeals, and with the goal of contributing to the nation’s educational programs, ULAA adopted an educational agenda in Liberia primarily geared towards the renovation and the provision of assistance for the construction of public schools throughout the country.
In an official statement released at the commencement of the project, ULAA’s National Executive Council noted, “as we embark upon this important milestone of bringing relief to the students of the Sackie Gbomoh Town Public School, ULAA wishes to express profound thanks to its member organizations and individual Liberians that have rallied in support of this worthy cause.
“The Union is firmly convinced that with support of the Liberian Diaspora, ULAA will achieve its Liberian development agenda leading to an improved learning environment for many primary school students,” ULAA asserted.
