Monrovia-Roberts Flight Information Region was originally established as a cooperative effort between Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea to provide en-route air traffic services to overflying aircrafts in the common flight information region in West Africa.
On Friday the organization witnessed the induction of one of it officials from Sierra Leone. At the Program, Transport Minister Angela Bush Casell called for cooperation amongst members of the Roberts Flight Information Region (RFIR).
She said as the group strives to monitor and ensure worthiness of the upper airspace of the three countries (Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone) there is a need for strong cooperation among member countries.
Speaking at the induction ceremony of the new secretary General Badara Talawary from Sierra Leone, she said, in fulfillment of Article II of the Aeronautical Accord of the 1975 it requires that the position of Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General for technical Affairs should rotate between the Republics of Sierra Leone and Guinea every three years whereas the position for deputy Secretary General for administrative Affairs be held permanently by the Republic of Liberia.
Minister Casell said: “I am honored, distinguished colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, to welcome you to this official take-over of our secretary General of the RFIR, Mr. Badara Allieu Tarawaley by his government and accepted by the Republic of Liberia and Guinea through the council of ministers of the three members’ states.”
She disclosed that the role to the successful induction has not been milk and honey and commended all heads of member countries for what she described as their openness to engage with them while they acted on their behalf to amicably resolve relevant issues that were affecting the RFIR.
“Distinguished colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am convinced our new Secretary General will work to achieve the RFIR’s agenda given the proven track record in setting and maintaining high standards over the years. I hope that you will give every assistance and co-cooperation to the new authority in carrying out their responsibilities,” she said.
Like RFIR, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) role is to ensure safe and expeditious air traffic flow for all flights in and out of Liberia airports, LCAA provides air traffic control and other air navigation services, as well as collates and disseminates essential aeronautical information for air navigation within the Liberia Terminal Control Area (TMA).
LCAA is also one of the agencies involved in the coordination of search and rescue operations in Liberia, through the Sub Rescue Coordination Centre (SRCC) located at the RIA Air Traffic Control Tower.
LCAA provides aeronautical information necessary for the safety, regularity and efficiency of international and national air navigation for the entire territory of Liberia within the Roberts Flight Information Region (RFIR).
Basic aeronautical information document that contains permanent information essential to air navigation within Liberia is published in RFIR-Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) Liberia and its updates/amendments. The AIP is made up of three parts, namely General (GEN), En-route (ENR) and Aerodromes (AD).
