The Risk Liberia Cannot Afford

The Editor,

We are overjoyed that Liberians are now speaking out against the various injustices that went on, and continue to go on in their country.

Liberians are now saying they want to use the legal process to address these injustices. They are prepared to hold accountable those bearing the greatest responsibility for economic crimes, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in their country.

It is important to note that the advocacy for the establishment of a Liberian War Crimes Court has increased on various social media sites such as twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other human rights webpages.

With such high demand for justice amongst Liberians especially as Liberia’s 2017 Presidential elections get closer; we feel obligated to help direct said enthusiasm in a meaningful way such that it yields the desire result.

We want Liberians to understand that entrusting the affairs of their country again to persons, whose offences are so egregious such that it was recommended that one of them be barred from public office for up to 30 years … and/or the possibility of long-term prison term,  is a risk they must not be tempted to take this time.
