Comprehension is different from reading: While some may NOT want to read or hear this message at this particular time, the question then becomes; when would be the right time?
Should we ALL not talk about the ‘Elephant In The Room’ – so to speak? Should we all pretend as though he was “witched, cursed” or some other ridiculous explanation, most Liberians often seek refuge – when these sorts of preventable tragedies occurred & they have no other explanations, even when presented with overwhelming facts to the contrary, as with this case? Are you folks going to keep coming on social media telling us logical folks that “they witch him”….really?
Well, some of us refused to be silent, milquetoast into being Politically Correct or seek solace in such conveniently ignorant conclusions! I refuse to accept one more Preventable Death of a “National Treasure” due to Drinking and Driving or whatever socially acceptable societal norms there are in Liberia – when it comes to DUI, without having to worry about the consequences.
Instead of folks putting up pictures, videos, cursing etc. trying to convince the rest of us common sense folks that Quincy was not a young man acting his age in that situation, or asking some imaginary Jewish deity “Why” – Why not cease upon this opportunity to discuss the Elephant In The Room?
How many times have we seen many of the same folks typing: “Amen” & “R.I.P” under photos of Quincy, posting photos of themselves Drinking and Driving in their vehicles in Liberia during one of the many National holidays?
Will NOT discussing the cause of death make you feel comfortable with escaping the reality that Quincy caused his own death and could have potentially cause the death of not only the other passengers, but…innocent pedestrians, as well?
What’s the deal with all of the pretentious sentiments wrapped in ‘fake grief?’ How many of you folks will type ‘Rest in Peace Quincy’…..go to Angler’s on Karaoke night, get wasted and sit behind the steering wheel?
Are the photos of Quincy drinking at Angler’s or the Guinness bottle on the roof of the overturned vehicle in the pics below all just an “illusion?”
The bottom-line is that vehicle did not come to rest upside down due to “Magic” or “Old women flying around on broom-sticks.”
The equation, as with any given scenario in life, will always produce the same outcome (in this case – DUI):
Inexperienced Inebriated Driver +
Poor Decision Making + Velocity * Acceleration = Reckless/Impaired Driving, Accident & Probable Loss of Life!
When you drink and drive, you increase the chances of not only killing yourself, but…others, as well. What part of this many of you do not comprehend? You don’t need to purchase a degree from AMEU, UMU, Cuttington or LU to grasp this basic concept.
Faults & Blame
History is rife with artists making questionable decisions. Why you asked? The simple answer is artists are pampered folks that are not used to hearing “No.” Whether it was Michael Jackson paying thousands of dollars to be put under anesthesia or Whitney Houston taking a deadly combination of cocaine & pills – then taking a bath unmonitored.
In each of circumstances, the folks tasked with managing and overseeing these artists, including Quincy was not present when they were needed the most. Where were Quincy’s manager/handlers to monitor his movements or prevent him from getting behind the steering of that vehicle while obviously under the influence of alcohol and doing his best Jeff Gordon impression on the boulevard that time of the morning? Aren’t ‘National Treasures’ supposed to be managed properly?
Where were the adults and management of Anglers’ karaoke night who should have known better?You guys were the ones who provided/sold him the alcohol. Where’s the moron (Jabateh) thought it a great idea to influence a new & inexperienced driver to race with him, when he, Quincy was obviously under the influence of alcohol? Why are you hiding now? Were you been your “brother’s keeper?”
Did anyone bothered to even ask this kid how he was getting home that night? Did any of you take the time to offer to drive him home? If your answer is NO, and you were present and saw him drinking that night and did nothing because Quincy was a Star; you share some of the responsibilities of his death.
If that makes you angry; good! Look in the mirror & re-direct that anger into preventing the next Preventable Death of an upcoming artist due to Driving under the Influence!
Consider yourself a very lucky man Jabateh. You live in a nation where folks are often not punished for their actions. If you were a resident of the United States, you’ll be sitting in a cold jail cell thinking about your actions; influencing an Inebriated Quincy to race you that morning!
*What should we expect from a nation where the lawmakers are the primary offenders of DUI?
